Abbiati confident ahead of Milan derby

Milan goalkeeper Cristian Abbiati is confident that the Rossoneri will perform well in the fast approaching Derby Della Maddonina.
Abbiati has been instrumental in Milan’s season so far and he believes the club can turn around the recent negative results against Bari and Palermo, in the game with Inter on April 2.
“There is a lot of confidence ahead of the derby. We were halted to an extent between Bari and Palermo, picking up a draw and a defeat, but we still have two-point lead with eight rounds to the end.”
One of the main talking points for this derby will be the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was banned for three games following his altercation with Marco Rossi during the Bari game.
Abbiati spoke out against the length of the ban against the Swedish striker, but feels that Milan are strong enough to cope without the services of their leading goalscorer for this campaign.
“Probably the three-match ban is a bit excessive, but many players have been punished in the same way. But even if Zlatan is very important to us, we have great champions and I think his absence is not a big problem.”
Abbiati’s performances this season have seen the Rossoneri keep the best defensive record in Serie A having conceded only 22 goals in their 30 games so far, but the keeper shares the achievement with others.
“It is not only the goalkeeper who is responsible for this, but it is also the defenders and the whole team.” Milan’s defensive solidarity is a good omen for the Diavolo as in the last four years, the team that has conceded the least number of goals has gone on to win the league.
