Are AC Milan ready to reclaim their glory days

AC Milan have become a force of yesteryears in Italian football. It’s been six years since Milan’s last Serie A triumph, and it has been four years since they last played in Champions League.

In their absence, Napoli and AS Roma have emerged as main challengers to Juventus’ domination in Serie A. However, it appears that the established order is once again set to undergo a change in the Italian football. Milan have already made huge waves in the transfer market, and they are currently third-favourites at 7/1 odds at 10bet to win Serie A next season.
On the back of financial backing from the Chinese owners, Milan have already signed the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva, and more this summer. And if the latest reports are to be believed, Rossoneri are set to seal a deal for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Premier League side Chelsea are also interested in the Gabon international, but according to the latest reports in Italy, Milan are already in talks with the player, and he is set to sign a £220,000-a-week deal with them.
If Milan can pull off the signing of the Dortmund striker, then there would be no doubt that they would be a force to reckon in Italy next season. However, questions still remain about head coach Vincenzo Montello. The Roma legend could only lead Milan to a disappointing sixth-place finish last season. He is yet to prove his credentials as a manager and, if Milan don’t display title-challenging form early on in the season, it might lead to his midseason sacking.
The acquisition of Leonardo Bonnuci for €42 million from Juventus was a definitely a bold move – one that would directly weaken their opponents. Besides already mentioned players, Milan have also completed the signings of Andrea Cont, Hakan Calhanoglu, Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez. Strangely enough, the most encouraging news of the window for Milan has been their success in convincing goalkeeping prodigy Antonio Donnarumma sign a new deal for the club.
That is some heavy spending from the Italian club, and there is little doubt that new owners will be looking for immediate results on the pitch next season. Montello is more than likely to have all the ammunition with him next season, but does he have what it takes to mount a serious challenge to Juventus?
In our opinion, Juventus are still a league above the rest of their opponents in Italy, but Milan should look to finish in the top three next season.
