Bale won’t travel to Milan

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that star player Gareth Bale has not travelled with the rest of the squad to face Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The winger has been out of action with a back injury, and its severity seems fairly unknown. At first, Bale seemed to have no chance of lining up against Milan, but yesterday Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said he might shake off the problem in time to play.
But, Bale was not present as the Spurs squad flew out to Italy, meaning Milan have been handed a massive boost in the upcoming knock-out tie.
The Welshman was a particular worry for the Rossoneri because the last time he played at the San Siro this season, he scored a brilliant hat-trick against Inter. He then tore Inter apart in the reverse fixture, and has emerged as one of the hottest talents in Europe.
Spurs are also thought to be without playmaker Luka Modric, who has recently had his appendix removed, although Rafael van der Vaart is expected to play.
Milan have their own concerns, with Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini, Antonio Cassano and Mark van Bommel confirmed as unavailable.
The absence of Bale, however, could be the factor that gives Massimiliano Allegri’s side the advantage in the first leg.
