Ballon D’Or 2010 – Italian’s notable by their absence

FIFA has just the released its list of final contenders for this years Golden Ball award and it does not make for happy reading for the peninsula. Not a single player from Italy has been shortlisted although Inter are well represented in the final 23. Samuel Eto’o, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Wesley Sneijder are all in the running, but another Nerazzurri player not included is Argentine striker Diego Milito, scorer of both goals in last season’s Champions League final in Madrid.
As predicted, Spain are heavily represented having won last summer’s World Cup in South Africa, they have seven nominations. Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea’s Didier Drogba lead the English Premier League challenge alongside Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan. Germany have five candidates, all from Bayern Munich, and last years winner Lionel Messi, has made the final 23 again. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
