Buffon gives backing to Viviano

Gianluigi Buffon has given his backing to current Italy goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano in an interview with Sky Sports Italia.
Bologna ‘keeper Viviano has seemingly become the Azzurri number one, overtaking Salvatore Sirigu in the past two matches. The injured Buffon has praised his replacement’s ability after he kept a clean sheet against Northern Ireland.
Buffon said: “He did very well in Belfast, even though he didn’t really have much to do. He reminds me of myself as a young man, as he faces the game in a confident, almost arrogant manner. That can really help when you want to make your mark in a sport full of ‘grown-ups‘.”
“We spoke after Juventus-Bologna and I can say he seemed a bit weird! I like that, as those characters who are called quite mad tend to be really genuine and well-loved people.”
Viviano is expected to win his third international cap for the visit of Serbia on Tuesday.
