Burdisso to miss Rome derby showdown

Roma have confirmed that they will be without their Argentinean defender Nicolas Burdisso for Sunday’s Rome derby against Lazio. The Corriere Dello Sport reports that the 29-year-old central defender has an ankle injury that will also keep him out of next Wednesday’s home game against Fiorentina. Burdisso limped out of Roma’s mid-week win at Basel in the Champions League and after tests back at the club’s medical centre, specialist’s confirmed he has an ankle sprain.
There was some good news for Claudio Ranieri’s men however with French international defender Philippe Mexes getting the all clear after missing Wednesday evening’s game in Switzerland. Mexes will partner the Brazilian Juan in the centre of defence. There were also concerns that Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic would also miss Sunday’s big showdown after aggravating his knee in Basel. Fortunately for the Giallorossi, it is not thought to be serious and the 27-year-old will be available for the derby.
