Cassano ruling – Sampdoria stay with half pay

Sampdoria have been denied permission to rescind Cassano’s contract as the arbitration panel ruled there were insufficient grounds to take such a major action. However, Sampdoria will be allowed to half Cassano’s wages as a disciplinary measure.
Cassano will be allowed to return to the squad from the 1st of February and will have effectively served a three month ban by then that is if he is still with the Blucerchiati till then.
Cassano’s agent commented on the verdict and he felt that the resolution didn’t favour either side and left both parties with unresolved issues.
“There are no winners here. In any case, we cannot be satisfied, even if the tribunal reached an important decision in avoiding the contractual termination.”
The controversial 28-year-old hasn’t played since the end of October, when he had a large-scale falling out with club president Riccardo Garrone. He was immediately frozen out of the first-team and it seemed that he had played his last game for the club.
That may still be the case, as Sampdoria despite failing to terminate his contract, are expected to immediately sell him when the January transfer window opens.
However, this could prove difficult because although Sampdoria will ask for just a nominal fee, Cassano’s former club Real Madrid are entitled to €5 million if he is sold on. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
