DiBenedetto eyeing American stars for Roma

New Roma owner Thomas DiBenedetto has confirmed the team’s intention to sign at least one American player in the summer transfer window.
The Boston businessman who secured the takeover of the Giallorossi from Unicredit last month is set to officially become Club President on June 10th. He revealed his plan to sign a US star to MLSsoccer.com:
“We are obviously scouting players everywhere and we are obviously interested in the American products, both in MLS and abroad. I obviously can’t tell you any names, but we want only the best for our team.”
As the first foreign owner in Italian league history, DiBenedetto knows the pressure to do well in the Eternal City is paramount. For that reason, DiBenedetto chose “the best managers available,” beginning with Walter Sabatini, a former Director at Palermo.
Sabatini, will be acting as the new Sporting Director of Roma, and he will be commissioned with drawing top talent in the coming transfer window. His appointment is due to be confirmed imminently.
MLSsoccer.com asserts Sabatini’s top American interests include Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Michael Bradley (now on loan to Aston Villa) and LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan.
New York Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo, FC Nürnberg right-sider Timothy Chandler, Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan and Anderlecht midfielder Sacha Kljestan are also being followed.
