Diego Simone named as new Catania Coach

Last night Catania parted company with coach Marco Giampaolo by mutual consent. Almost straight away ex-Argentine International Diego Simeone was installed in an effort to keep the Sicilian team in the top flight.
Catania sit only three points above the relegation zone and are fighting to stay out of it, despite this Catania administrator Pietro LoMonaco had insisted that Giampaolo’s position was safe. As so often happens in Italian football this vote of confidence was actually the kiss of death.
Last night Catania’s official website read “Calcio Catania and coach Marco Giampaolo announce an end to the current contract between the two sides. Taking note of the positive job done until now, Calcio Catania wish the coach and his staff the best sporting luck,”
No sooner had the revolving door stopped spinning when a new man was in walking through to take charge. 40-year-old Diego Simone who is no stranger to Serie A after playing with Inter, Lazio and Milan was installed on an 18 month contract. Even though he is still young he has managed Racing Club, Estudiantes, River Plate and San Lorenzo in his native land. This appointment will be his first abroad and with four defeats in the last six it could prove to be a tough one.
Catania’s official website read “Catania Calcio can announce they have assigned technical management of the first team to Diego Pablo Simeone, who is bounded with a contract until June 30, 2012, The new coach and the men of his staff will be officially unveiled to press today.”
