Eto’o: I’ll play final year for Mallorca then become Inter coach

Samuel Eto’o has reiterated his desire to end his playing career with Real Mallorca, but also revealed that he harbours ambitions of one day coaching Inter Milan.
The current Nerazzurri striker spent four years with Mallorca and Eto’o believes he owes the Spanish club a lot after being told he was surplus to requirements at Real Madrid in 2000.
“In my last year I will go to Mallorca, the team that gave me the opportunity to grow,” he told the Inter Channel.
“In the world of football they gave me the chance to grow and become a man and that is something priceless. That’s why I hope my last smile on a football field will be with Mallorca. Then I will come back here to coach Inter.”
The 29-year-old has been in fantastic form so far this season, scoring his 23rd goal in all competitions. But despite his clinical edge, Eto’o admits that it will count for little if Inter end up with none of the big prizes come the end of the season.
“My record is the same as reaching the objectives of the team. Fighting for the championship is more beautiful than scoring 45 goals (in a season),” added Eto’o.
“If we can fight with AC Milan, who despite their draw (with Lecce) are still a good team, it will be wonderful. The Scudetto? In life anything is possible. We will work hard and fight every match to make something that is currently difficult turn into a possibility.”
The former Barcelona frontman also reserved special praise for Inter captain Javier Zanetti who equalled Giuseppe Bergomi’s record of 519 appearances for the club during Saturday’s 4-1 thumping of Bologna.
“He deserves it,” said Eto’o. “He is the perfect player. The perfect team-mate. A friend that everyone wants. He deserves it. May God grant that he continues to play for many years at Inter, because he wants to end his career here.
“When one sees how Zanetti fights for every ball on the field, he seems like a 16 or 17-year-old starting his career and then he is the perfect example for any kid who wants to start a career in professional football.”
