Former Inter youth stars Bolzoni and Destro might find their way with Siena

Young players often attract the spotlight at times where their ability is in a raw state, and in such cases many initially fail to live up to the hype and expectation thrust upon them. Two young players who will be lining up for Siena next season, Francesco Bolzoni and Mattia Destro, are hoping that they will be able to develop their talents and fulfil the potential they had shown.
An Inter youth product who had appeared to be nearing the first team following fine form in the Primavera, Mattia Destro has produced his more consistent performances in competitive action with the national team, playing for all Azzurri youth sides bar the under-20s. This form hasn’t quite translated to his club career but with limited opportunities thus far, it’s a more understandable lack of transition for the forward.
In January of this year, Destro found himself used as a makeweight by Inter in order for them to obtain Andrea Ranocchia from Genoa. Six months on and Genoa have now loaned the young forward to newly promoted Siena with the hope that Destro can get some much needed first team football with a Serie A club and can hopefully kick-start his club career in the top-flight. With the senior national team undergoing a rebuilding process, this would be an ideal occasion for Destro to prove his mettle in the top flight and look to attract the attentions of Cesare Prandelli, as well as any scouts from clubs of higher standing.
Destro’s situation is similar to that of a fellow Inter youth product who will be turning out for Siena this season in the form of Francesco Bolzoni. Unlike Destro, Bolzoni did manage to make an appearance for the Nerazzurri but soon found himself at Genoa, before experiencing a season on loan at Frosinone in the second tier of the Italian game. Now into his second season with Siena, it is hoped that the experience Bolzoni has accumulated in Serie B over the previous two seasons has stood him in good stead for the future.
Siena provides an intriguing opportunity for these two players as while they are a Serie A club, they are not weighed down with any tremendous expectation and so far in pre-season they have almost been mentioned more as a side-note, in contrast to those who are expected to be relegation rivals alongside the Tuscan Bianconeri. Of course, as the season approaches they will inevitably be met with scrutiny, but without the huge expectation it could be very beneficial for any younger player looking to develop their game in the top tier of calcio.
Stadio Artemio Franchi just might be the arena in which Destro and Bolzoni take firm grips on their respective careers and look to move onto the bigger and better things that had been hoped for them when first breaking into the professional game. It all depends on their reaction to the demands of top-flight football.
