Galliani confirms Milan interest in Matri

Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani has confirmed his club’s interest in Cagliari’s Alessandro Matri. Milan have been struck down with injuries to their forwards with both Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi injured and Galliani believes reinforcements may be necessary to keep the Rossoneri on top.
In an interview with the Corriere dello Sport, Uncle Fester, as he is known to fans, claimed that Milan could possibly consider a move for Matri who spent his formative years with the Diavolo. “Matri is a Cagliari player who we sold after he grew up in our youth academy, therefore we know him very well”.
Matri who equalled Cagliari legend Gigi Riva’s record for scoring in seven consecutive games last season has been reportedly looking to move to a big club. The Sardinian scored twice during the Rossoblu’s 5-1 thumping of Roma in Week 2 but since then the team has faded away and currently sits right above the drop zone.
Despite not committing to a move there has been widespread speculation that Milan will sign a striker in January as Inzaghi has been ruled out for the season and Pato is struggling to maintain his fitness. Brazilian ace Ronaldinho is also on the fringes of the squad having not started a game for the club since the Champions League match with Real Madrid.
“I will be presumptious on Dinho – I am convinced that before he signs for another team, he will discuss things with Milan. As he has not said anything yet, I don’t believe it is a problem”, commented Galliani on the rumours of the two time World Player of the Year considering a move back to Brazil or the MLS.
