Garrone offers explanation to Sampdoria fans

Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone who has come under intense fire from the Blucerchiati fans for letting go of Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini has offered some explanations on the club’s official website.
The Doriani faithful has seen his side going from being on the cusp of participating in the Champions League to mid-table crisis in a matter of months and angry fans were looking for answers from their President.
Garrone had a personal fall-out with Cassano that saw ‘il Talentino’ frozen out of the team and then subsequently sold to Milan, and allowed Pazzini to leave for Inter, making Samp devoid of both their star men in the matter of a month.
In a statement on the website, the Samp President started by offering an explanation to fans for declining to meet them this week and then gave his version of events at the club.
“Unfortunately, the recent events that have drawn a lot of focus have affected me very deeply. At this moment, I do not have the mood suited to address a public debate that would be set in a constructive manner but it could offer moments of tension and verbal confrontation.
“The Cassano incident and the sale of Pazzini, did not leave me indifferent as some might come to think. In addition to this, my ongoing battle against the dark powers and inequalities of our football and now age-old story on the project for a new stadium have so far taken a lot of energy and led to a decidedly less romantic vision of the sport.”

Garrone finally thanked the fans for their support and called them the real assets of the club and has tried to assure them that despite the absence of Cassano and Pazzo, there is still life at Sampdoria.
“I remain firmly convinced that the real assets of Samp are its fans. Thanks to their support and their passion I have felt unforgettable emotions. My temporary discouragement, however, does not affect, in any way, the development of a project carried out by a group of excellent professionals in which I place the utmost confidence.”
Sampdoria fans will hope that the club is able to turn a corner soon as Wednesday night’s defeat at home to Cagliari has seen them win just one of their last seven games.
