Genoa consider Mutu bid

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has admitted that he would consider signing Fiorentina’s bad-boy striker Adrian Mutu should the opportunity arise.
Fiorentina are in the process of suing Mutu, 30, for walking out of training last week, and the club have confirmed that he will move on during the January transfer window.
The row was reportedly due to Mutu’s willingness to join Cesena, however Genoa are now willing to give him a choice. Preziosi confessed that the Rossoblu were following the development of the Romanian’s situation.
“He could interest us. It would be an important opportunity for us. I still haven’t had a chance to speak with Fiorentina, but if we were to meet I would say: ‘Why not?’”
Preziosi’s team have recently lost Luca Toni to Juventus on a free transfer, and although his goalscoring record was poor during his six month stint at Genoa, there is now a gaping hole in the club’s attack.
Preziosi spent a significant amount of money last summer so may not be able to afford a replacement, so signing a player of Mutu’s quality without paying a transfer fee may represent good business.
