Genoa striker Luca Toni wants to play for Italy again

Luca Toni has spoken of his desire to play for the national team again, but concedes he may need to once again be Serie A’s top scorer to achieve his goal.
Toni, 33, has joined Genoa this season after two disappointing seasons with Bayern Munich and Roma, and hopes to rekindle the form that saw him net 31 goals for Fiorentina in 2005/06.
“It would have been nice to go to South Africa last summer, but I have to respect the decisions of the Coach. For the time being, Cesare Prandelli is working with youngsters for the future of the national side.
“I just hope to score so many goals with Genoa that I can re-launch my candidacy for the squad. Prandelli has my phone number. I could have played in a less competitive championship for more money, but I dream of winning the Capocannoniere crown again. I want to take Genoa far and help them to compete for a prestigious placing, perhaps to finish higher than a club who have a superior budget to ours.”
Toni, who has two goals so far this season, hasn’t played for Italy since the 2009 Confederations Cup. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
