Inter and Palermo advance in Coppa Italia

Inter and Palermo beat Genoa and Chievo respectively to seal their passage into the quarterfinals of Coppa Italia. Inter advanced after defeating Genoa 3-2 in an entertaining match in Milan while Palermo pulled off a hard fought 1-0 victory over Chievo at the Renzo Barbera.
The game in Sicily was the first one to kick-off and the Rosanero went close on several occasions but the Flying Donkeys goal was having a charmed life as Palermo struck the goal frame thrice.
The two teams had faced each other at the weekend in Serie A action where the game had ended 0-0 and it looked all set to finish that way once more until Fabrizion Miccoli went down in the box ten minutes from time.
Miccoli then got up and slotted home the penalty to give Palermo the narrow win and join Parma in the quarter-finals. Inter became the third team to advance to the last eight after an action packed game against Genoa.
The Nerazzurri fielded a strong line-up despite suggestions that they may ignore the competition after their injury concerns from earlier in the season.
Samuel Eto’o was the menace-in-chief once again as the Cameroonian scored two well taken goals to give Inter a comfortable 2-0 lead going into half-time.
However, after the break Andrea Ranocchia, making his first start for Inter, brought down Rudolf in the penalty area and was lucky to see only yellow against his former side.
Houssine Kharja converted the subsequent spot-kick to halve the deficit but just five minutes later Inter were two ahead again following a brilliant MacDonald Mariga header from a Maicon corner.
Luca Castellazzi kept Genoa’s attempts to get back in the game at bay with saves against Domenico Criscito and Giadomenico Mesto before Giuseppe Sculli scored a precise header in the first minute of stoppages
However, it was too little too late for the Rossoblu as Inter held on till the end of time to give Leonardo his third successive win since taking over from Rafa Benitez. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
