Italy U21s beat Russia

Ciro Ferrara’s Italian Under-21s defeated a spirited Russian side 2-0 in Padova last night. Two second half goals from Riccardo Samponara and Manolo Gabbiadini means the former Juventus manager is still unbeaten as the Azzurini manager.
Italy started with a strong line-up including the likes of Davide Santon, Alberto Paloschi and Frederico Macheda in yesterday’s friendly, but had to wait until the final five minutes before making an impact.
Empoli midfielder, Samponara, came on for Livorno’s Marco D’Alesandro, and made an immediate impact, scoring his first Azzurini goal with an angled drive across the goalkeeper.
That was followed in stoppage time with another Italian goal, this time from Cittadella striker Manolo Gabbiadini. It was a classic counter-attacking goal, made by debutant, Fernando Forestieri.
After the game, Ferrara told the Gazzetta dello Sport: “Today’s game was the toughest since I took charge of La Nazionale.
“The result makes us happy, but we have to examine the performance overall. We ran into difficulties and we need to address them.” Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
