Italy v Estonia – Probable formations

Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli is expected to start with a 4-3-1-2 formation in Italy’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Estonia tonight in Modena.
Italy can take a huge leap towards qualification for the tournament with a win versus the side they overcame last September, 2-1. Gli Azzurri are first in Group C with 13 points, five ahead of nearest challengers Slovenia and Serbia, who have both played a game extra.
Without Thiago Motta in midfield, Prandelli will look towards Claudio Marchisio to offer support to Andrea Pirlo and Riccardo Montolivo. Alberto Aquilani has been given the nod ahead of Sebastian Giovinco behind the strikers, while he has opted against a true No 9 up front, to start Antonio Cassano alongside Giuseppe Rossi.
“Cassano and Rossi will start in attack. I have gone for a smaller duo up front as I don’t want to give Estonia any points of reference. We saw in Tallinn that we managed to create problems for them with movement. It is a decision based on our opponents,” said Prandelli.
The former Fiorentina tactician has warned in the pre-match press conference this will be a danger game for Italy, coming at the end of a long season and considering Estonia defeated Serbia in Belgrade, 3-1.
“There’s a lot more concern compared to last time, given how they played against Serbia. They played very good football,” noted Prandelli.
“They have tall forwards, their midfielders get forward well; I’m worried for many reasons. This game has come at the end of the season and in a delicate moment. We’re going to need a lot of energy tomorrow.”
Estonia will be without key duo Aleksandr Dmitrijev and Konstantin Vassiljev for the match, as well as the injured Andres Oper and Andrei Sidorenkov.
