Julio Cesar thanks his Inter team mates

In recent years Julio Cesar had been rated as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, if not the best. That is why last nights horrific error against Bayern Munich was such a shock, especially as it was the second error in two legs against the German side. The Brazilian certainly made sure he thanked his team mates for the reprieve after the game.
In the first leg against Bayern at the Giuseppe Meazza, Cesar had failed to hold onto an Arjen Robben shot that allowed Mario Gomez to steal a last minute winner. Last night however, the normally dependable Cesar unbelievably made a second error when a weak shot from Robben again saw the Brazilian keeper spill the ball into the path of Mario Gomez. The second error was undoubtedly worse and the Nerazzurri custodian was grateful that his teammates saved the day for him.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game he admitted: “That was a terrible moment. When I let that in I just wanted to disappear immediately, go back to Milan – on foot, on horseback, whatever – but then I pulled myself together. The goal was like a cold shower, but thanks to my teammates we got back into it. I really must congratulate them. Still, you learn from your mistakes. I messed up tonight, more than in the first leg for sure, but fortunately we’re here now talking about our victory.”
The relieved keeper continued: “Afterwards I rolled my sleeves up and got on with it. Which save was the most difficult? Maybe the one from Ribery. What did I do when Pandev scored? I started to cry, I thanked God and my teammates. I would have been in a really bad way if we’d lost, but these are things that help you become more mature. Let’s hope that’s the end of the mistakes now.”
