Juventus and Liverpool want Sampdoria’s Ziegler

Sampdoria’s Reto Ziegler is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Liverpool and Juventus, according to reports in the Liverpool Echo.
If Liverpool’s takeover is successfully completed, it has been suggested that the new owners will give Roy Hodgson funds to spend in January, and Ziegler is on their wanted-list.
They face competition from Juventus, though, who are keen to sign a new left-back due to the weaknesses they have in that position. Paolo De Ceglie is currently playing there for Juve, but has come in for criticism for his performances this season and could be replaced.
Ziegler’s future at Sampdoria is uncertain because his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and it looks increasingly unlikely that he will extend his stay with the Blucerchiati.
The Swiss international has supposedly attracted interest from numerous clubs across Europe, and could choose who to join when he becomes a free agent at the end of June. Liverpool and Juve hope to tie up a deal for him in January to avoid entering a bidding war, and Sampdoria may be keen to do business instead of losing him for free.
