Juventus close-in on Wolfsburg defender

Andrea Barzagli appears to be close to returning to his homeland with Serie A giants Juventus favourites to capture the defender’s signature.
Fiesole born Barzagli has been plying his trade in the German Bundesliga with Steve McClaren’s VfL Wolfsburg for the last two seasons, but with his contract set to expire this summer and his current reluctance to pen a new deal, the Wolves are thought to be keen to cash in on their centre back.
Juve are eager to bolster their options in defence during this winter transfer window and sporting director Giuseppe Marotta is believed to be a keen admirer of the 29-year-old centre back.
La Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting this morning that the Old Lady have already agreed terms with the World Cup winner and all that is left to conclude the deal is a fee to be agreed between the two clubs.
The former Palermo star was part of the Italian squad that triumphed in Germany in 2006 and was also included in the Azzurri squad that struggled at the 2008 European Championships, bringing his total awarded caps to 25.
Having not played for the national side for two years, the defender may well be hoping a switch to Turin will revive his international career.
