Juventus confirm Matri capture

Juventus have confirmed rumours that they have snapped up their long-term target Alessandro Matri on loan from Cagliari until the end of the season.
Juve will pay an initial €2.5 million for the loan, before having the option to make his move permanent in the summer for a further €15.5 million. Juve defender Lorenzo Ariaudo has moved to Cagliari on loan with an option to buy as a makeweight in Matri’s transfer.
News broke just a couple of hours ago that Juve were trying to resurrect a move for Matri, who seemed all but certain to remain in Sardinia until the end of the season.
Cagliari president Massimo Cellino claimed he was holding out for €18m before entertaining the thought of selling his star striker, but assuming Juventus take up their option to buy him in June, the full asking-price would have been paid.
Juve had to make sure that Amauri went out on loan before Matri could arrive. The 26-year-old is expected to be Juve’s main striker in the absence of Fabio Quagliarella, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Luca Toni.
