Juventus consider Santacroce as back-up

Juventus’ search for defensive recruits to bolster their squad has taken them to Napoli’s Fabiano Santacroce, who could now be made a January transfer target.
The 24-year-old centre-back is not a first-choice at Napoli and has been rumoured to be looking for a new club all season. If Juventus do make their interest official, Santacroce still would not make himself a first-choice player in their plans as they are looking for back-up.
Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini are assured of their places in Gigi Del Neri’s starting 11, as well as for the national team. However, Juventus’ other options have become strained this season leading to the pair playing more games than the club would like.
A move for Santacroce would mean that the Bianconeri have a reliable option on the bench whenever Bonucci and Chiellini need to be rested.
Juventus have already bought a centre-back from Napoli this season, having taken Leandro Rinaudo at the start of the season. However, he has suffered with serious injuries this season and is unlikely to play any part in the rest of the campaign.
Santacroce, who was born in Brazil but is now a naturalised Italian, could be set for a loan switch to Turin because Juventus value his ability to cover different positions in defence.
