Juventus met with Tottenham to discuss Bale

Corriere dello Sport understands that Juventus made approaches for Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale last year.
Roberto Bettega, the Juve legend who was a director for the club last season, has revealed that he tried to bring Bale to Turin before leaving his job. The Welsh winger has since gone on to hugely increase his price-tag with two incredible performances against Inter in the Champions League recently.
Bettega claimed: “Last year I went to London to speak with [Tottenham manager Harry] Redknapp and I asked him about Bale. I knew Tottenham were interested in some Juve players and the discussion wasn’t closed.
“When I handed over to [new sporting director] Beppe Marotta, I explained to him all of my movements. I only know that they have signed six wingers, but not Bale.
“I don’t know if Juve re-opened the talks. The discussion wasn’t closed like someone wrote. I relayed everything because what sense is there in keeping it to myself. I worked for Juventus.”

Bettega’s bold statements are the latest by several Serie A directors who claim to have known about Bale’s talents since before he tore Inter to shreds.
