Juventus won’t spend big in January

Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta has claimed that the club will not heavily invest in new players in the January transfer window, and will wait until the end of the season.
Juve have been linked with a new striker, with Catania’s Maxi Lopez, Cagliari’s Alessandro Matri and Sampdoria’s Giampaolo Pazzini just three of the reported targets. However, Marotta has insisted that a substantial bid for any of the three players won’t happen until at least June.
He said: “First we must make judgements between ourselves. Let’s say that we haven’t been able to count on Amauri, who is an important striker that we have missed.
“We must improve the squad in terms of quality. Our objective is that of reinforcing the squad. We must evaluate two things – the first is the opportunities that present themselves and the second is the financial aspect, as we can’t do big business in the [January] transfer window.”

Although Marotta claims that any significant transfers will have to wait, he confirmed his liking for Lopez, Matri and Pazzini.
He continued: “We aren’t the only ones who like [Lopez]. But there has been no contact with Catania and I don’t think there will be any soon.
“[Matri and Pazzini] are players who could form an important part of a team like Juventus. Right now the strategy doesn’t foresee important investments, but in June or July anything can happen and Matri and Pazzini are super interesting elements for a team like Juventus.”
