Lecce chief in hot water over referee claims

The Corriere dello Sport reports that Lecce president Pierandrea Semeraro has been asked by the Italian football authorities to explain his abusive comments towards the match referee Gabriele Gava during the Gialorossi’s 4-0 thumping in Turin against Juventus.
The patron allegedly questioned the official’s ability to take charge of a match of such importance after Juventus were awarded a dubious penalty that effectively sealed the match.
Semeraro’s comments echo the sentiments of club captain Guillermo Giacomazzi who also explained on Puglian television station Channel 8, that he had been refereed by the same official many times and that he always seemed to favour the big teams. On top of the sanctions taken against the president, the club will also receive a fine for Semeraro’s actions. A date for the hearing has not been specified.
