Maxi Lopez reaffirms Italy wish

Corriere dello Sport has reported that Catania’s Argentinean-born striker Maxi Lopez wants to represent Italy at international level.
The much-travelled 26-year-old has impressed since signing for the Sicilian team in January 2010, and has been linked with a move to a bigger team in Europe. Despite his goalscoring prowess in Serie A, though, the Argentina national side has always eluded Lopez.
He has now expressed a desire to play for the Azzurri if he gains an Italian passport, saying: “The Italian national team? I’m just concentrating on Catania right now. The blue shirt of Italy will only arrive as a consequence of the work that I do with my club side.”
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has opened the door to selecting foreign-born players, such as Juventus’ Amauri who was born in Brazil.
