Mazzarri hails ‘indispensable’ Cavani

Walter Mazzarri today compared Edinson Cavani to Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in an effort to express the striker’s importance to Napoli.
Speaking to reporters on the eve of Napoli’s Europa Cup encounter with Villarreal, Mazzarri hinted towards personnel changes, but was quick to recognise the Uruguayan’s excellent form.
He said: “Edinson is indispensable for us, just as the Swede is for Milan.”
With important games in Serie A on the horizon, it was thought the Naples club would rest some key players for the visit of the Spanish side, yet Mazzarri is likely to name his top scorer in the starting line-up.
‘The Matador”, who has already contributed 22 league goals, has netted 7 of Napoli’s 11 goals in Europe this season.
“Milan with Ibra never give up, the same goes for us with the Matador. This is the finisher that we lacked,” he added.
Following the 2-0 defeat of Roma on Saturday, Mazzarri has stressed the need for consistency and has warned his players not to underestimate the quality Villarreal possess – a team he believes can lift the trophy in Dublin in May.
“They have more experience than us, they played in the Champions League. We are dealing with one of the possible candidates for the final,” he said.
Napoli have also announced that they intend to appeal the three-game ban handed to forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, with the hearing to take place on Friday.
The Argentine was disciplined retrospectively after TV replays showed him spitting in the direction of Aleandro Rosi – the Roma player also receiving a ban for a similar action.
“I hope justice will be done on Friday on the basis of existing regulations in football,” concluded Mazzarri. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
