Mazzone offers Ranieri support after Roma exit

On the night in which Claudio Ranieri resigned as Roma coach, Giallorossi legend Carlo Mazzone gave words of support.
Mazzone played for and managed Roma and is Serie A’s most experienced coach with over 1,000 professional matches under his belt. Speaking to he said “I am sad for Ranieri, because I know how it feels to be there right now and how much he is suffering. It’s a doomed year and so the Coach pays the price, as is always the case when a team loses. I don’t think the players got rid of their Coach. It doesn’t happen for a player to go on the field and play to upset their tactician.
“Only those who don’t know football can think that. Today’s result was amazing, but that doesn’t mean they were playing to lose. Otherwise they wouldn’t have gone 3-0 up. The players who moaned and caused controversy with Ranieri didn’t just do it with him. They’ve got previous at this sort of thing,”

Roma have suffered four straight defeats and with reports of trouble in the dressing room being rife as well as an apparent feud with Captain Francesco Totti this season Ranieri felt the time was right to walk away. Vincenzo Montella and Serse Cosmi are the early favourites to replace ‘The Tinker man’ with Carlo Ancelotti’s name also being mentioned. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
