Mexes suffers season-ending injury for Roma

Roma defender Philippe Mexes will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury in Sunday’s match against Juventus.
Corriere dello Sport reports tests carried out on the player’s left knee yesterday morning revealed a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament. The Frenchman is set to have surgery in the coming days and faces an injury layoff of 4 – 5 months.
Mexes injured his knee towards the end of the first-half in Roma’s clash with Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The defender returned to the pitch following the break and was immediately withdrawn, visibly showing distress for his knee.
This is unwelcome news for the Giallorossi, who have enjoyed the rich form of the powerful centre back this season and currently lie in sixth place – six points adrift from the final Champions League spot.
Mexes is out of contract with Roma in June and it has been widely reported that he will join Milan, though no official agreement has been announced.
