Mexes to leave Roma for Chelsea

The Daily Mail is speculating that Chelsea could sign Roma’s Philippe Mexes in January to ease their defensive injury crisis.
Chelsea are currently without captain John Terry for several weeks, while fellow centre-back Alex is struggling for fitness. This has left them with only Branislav Ivanovic as a natural option in this position, so coach Carlo Ancelotti could look to his former club Roma to poach Mexes.
The 28-year-old Frenchman will become a free agent when his contract expires in the summer, and he hasn’t looked likely to agree an extension with Roma after losing his first-team spot. The Giallorossi might prefer to cash in on Mexes in January rather than lose him for free at the end of the season.
Mexes played for Auxerre in his homeland before joining Roma in a highly controversial transfer in 2004. The player was found guilty of signing for Roma without his club’s permission and was banned, whilst the Giallorossi were made to pay the French club €7 million in compensation. In January, Chelsea could land the defender for a significantly smaller fee. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
