Miccoli could return for Milan Coppa Italia tie

Fabrizio Miccoli could return for Palermo ahead of the Italian Cup semi-final against Milan.
The former Juventus and Benfica forward was rested for the 2-3 victory over Roma, but Palermo coach Delio Rossi has suggested his influential captain could return for tomorrow night’s first leg encounter.
Rossi was quoted in Corriere dello Sport today saying he was unsure whether he would re-introduce Miccoli or keep faith in the Uruguayan Abel Hernandez, who proved to be the match-winner in Rome.
“It is true that Miccoli has not played in Rome to preserve him and also because they did not play other players. I choose according to the games ahead,” said Rossi.
Miccoli could be joined in the starting eleven by Slovenian midfielder Josip Ilicic, who returns from injury and will be assessed before the game. “I decide based on what I see in training,” added Rossi.
The Sicilians have endured a turbulent season on and off the pitch, with Rossi returning to the club following his acrimonious departure in February.
His replacement, Serse Cosmi, who coached the team for all of four weeks before his exit, has since criticised club president Maurizio Zamparini for interfering in team selection, claiming he was told to leave Miccoli out of the starting line-up.
The Italian Cup could provide salvation to a side which is likely to lose a number of their star performers at the end of the season – with Javier Pastore, Ilicic and Hernandez all tipped to move on.
“Playing a semi-final – it is always important. It is something you dream of as a child,” concluded Rossi.
Palermo travel to San Siro for the first leg of a two-legged semi-final tomorrow night, with the return scheduled for May 1st.
