Mihajlovic: “I helped get Totti his Roma debut”

On the eve of his team’s trip to the capital to face Roma, Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has given a frank interview to the Corriere Dello Sport and has, rather surprisingly, been singing the praises of one man in particular.
Back in 1992 Mihajlovic and Francesco Totti were teammates and the former Serbian international has been explaining that it was him who instigated Er Pupone’s debut with the capital club: “we were due to play Brescia away and on the journey there I advised our coach Vujadin Boskov to bring Totti along with us for emergency purposes. Seven minutes from the end we were already 2-0 ahead and the coach decided to bring him on, hence Totti made his debut for Roma”.
The 39-year-old also explained the moment that their friendship came to an end : “we were good mates and we would go out together but then for some reason he decided not to participate in my farewell game and our relationship ended there”. He concluded by stating that: “Totti is a great champion, one of the best players Italy has ever produced, he deserves everything he has earned in the game”.
