Milan and Inter make it to semi-finals of Coppa Italia

Milan and Inter booked their place in the last four of the Coppa Italia after winning their respective games against Sampdoria and Napoli. The Rossoneri triumphed 2-1 over their Genovese opponents, while their city rivals needed penalties to see off the Azzurri.
Milan were in action first as they took on Sampdoria at the Stadio Marassi. The game saw il Diavolo coach Massimiliano Allegri hand debuts to their newest recruits Mark Van Bommel and Urby Emanuelson.
Sampdoria fielded their second string side giving a rest to their regulars and also handing Massimo Maccarone his maiden opportunity just a day after completing his move to the Blucerchiati.
Alexandre Pato’s two first half strikes put Milan in a comfortable position at the break but Sampdoria had shown signs of revival and they cut the deficit through a Stefano Guberti goal six minutes into the second period.
Despite the best efforts by Maccarone and Co., Samp were unable to find the equalizer sending Milan through to a semi-final clash with Palermo who managed to get the better of Parma last night.
In the late game, Napoli and Inter produced an entertaining goalless draw before the Azzurri took control in extra-time but still failed to find the back of the net and so, the game went to penalties.
Edison Cavani, Samuel Eto’o, Marek Hamsik and Esteban Cambiasso all converted their spot kicks before Argentinean Ezequiel Lavezzi blasted over the bar for the home side. This proved to be a crucial miss as all the subsequent penalties were scored and Cristian Chivu’s effort gave Inter the 5-4 win.
Inter will face the winners of tomorrow night’s game between Juventus and Roma that will be played in Turin. The semis are two-legged affairs unlike the previous rounds, with the final being played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
