Montella to take over at Roma

According to Sky Sports, Vincenzo Montella has been chosen to replace Claudio Ranieri at the helm of Roma. The former Sampdoria striker, who ended his playing career with the Giallorossi, has currently been running one of the Roma youth teams. He does not yet have all the relevant qualifications to coach in Serie A, but an application for a special temporary dispensation to this ruling does not appear to be a problem and it is expected he will immediately take on his duties of saving I Lupi’s season.
Ranieri’s resignation was formally accepted this morning, only hours after having told the Press he ‘would never abandon a sinking ship’. The 4-3 away defeat to Genoa, after having lead the game 3-0, was enough to make the ex-Chelsea tactician change his mind. However, many commentators have expressed how gracious the Coach has been in sacrificing himself for the good of the team. Ranieri himself explained that. ‘for the good of Roma I am leaving to try and give the club a jolt’.
Montella has plenty of work to do to bring the squad back into some kind of stability, as dressing room discontent appears to be a huge problem. However the issues continue to pile up as brazilian forward Adriano, who was due back at the training ground today after his rehabilitation stint in Rio, has cancelled his flight.
