Moratti asks for calm as Inter close the gap at top

Inter President Massimo Moratti refused to get carried away with the weekend’s results as the Nerazzurri closed the gap to Milan at the top to two points and believes the team must continue building on its positive results.
Inter’s 1-0 win over Lecce coupled with Milan’s loss by the same scoreline at Palermo has made the title race even more exciting, with the all-important Derby Della Maddonina to follow after the international break.
“We’ve never had such a positive second half of the season as this. We are still behind and we mustn’t get carried away, but we can say that up to now we have done what we were supposed to do,” Moratti told Inter Channel.
Inter were struggling under Rafa Benitez and were 16 points off Milan at one stage, albeit with three games in hand but with Leonardo at the helm the team seems to have returned to its best form.
“I can say, however, that I am very pleased for all the players and for Leonardo, who has fitted in perfectly at the club. He has brought just what I wanted, a great spirit. I’m already satisfied now but, as a fan, and like all fans, I’m hoping for something more.”
When Leonardo was hired at the end of last year, there were reports that it had to do with Inter getting back at Milan for signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a Nerazzurri talisman, but Moratti refuted such suggestions.
“It’s never nice when one of your players leaves and ends up with your opponent. But I respect people’s choices and we were fortunate to get a player like Eto’o .The two things are not connected, Leonardo and Ibrahimovic.
“It’s simply that, at some point, Leonardo came to mind during that period when things weren’t going so well, also from a psychological standpoint; I had known him for a long time, I knew that he was sound intellectually and ready to take risks, and he was.”

The Milan derby is likely to swing the title race in the favour of whoever wins the game, but Moratti feels, contrary to popular opinion, that Inter are not the favourites for this game.
“What worries me about AC Milan? Everything: their experience, their ability to stay calm in big matches, and I worry when I hear that we are the favourites, because you go onto the pitch with a different spirit. I hear people say we are the favourites but if they asked me I would say we aren’t.”
With the international break now in motion for the Euro 2012 qualifiers, the build-up to the derby will be even more intense than usual. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
