Moratti backs Benitez but believes Inter is struggling‏

Massimo Moratti has backed under fire Coach Rafa Benitez to continue with Inter but admitted that the Nerazzurri are struggling at the moment. In an interview with journalists following the loss to city rivals AC Milan, the President said the team’s situation was not great and it needed to have a different approach.
“The game was not good, not only because we failed to win, but because it was not a nice Derby. Even when we were a man up, I didn’t see anything special. It is not a terrible situation, but it is not great either, because the Derby is the Derby and I think we should have played with a better mentality”.
Inter’s recent run of form has been very poor having recorded only one victory in their previous five games in the league and Moratti admitted that the team is suffering quite a bit at the moment. “I also have the impression that the team is not improving. But there are also moments when we are unable to escape from these problems because of the injuries and other elements”.
Benitez asked for reinforcements after the game once more after a summer where Moratti tied his purse strings extremely tight and the patron said the team was now considering his options but also stated he expected more from the manager and his players.
“Everyone needs to get their head down, from the manager to everyone else. The squad is there, it is a squad of not 10 years ago but one of 3 months ago. Therefore, it is a squad that has done extremely well but still there is a huge room for improvement. I am available to understand what can be done (in the transfer market), but first I need to understand if it is worth it”.
Moratti’s stern words have been interpreted as a sign of warning for Benitez but Moratti stated he believes the Spaniard is capable of changing the situation: “The manager is certainly able to shake this group up. He was chosen because he is one of the men with the greatest experience, calm and has the capacity to do his job well. Its not easy to start over with a team that has done and given so much, but he has to do it”.
Luciano Spalletti and Leonardo are names that have come up in the media should Moratti decide to replace Benitez but the oil tycoom decided to laugh of such suggestions. “Lets not joke”, was his brief reply. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
