Moratti: “Inter’s year is a 9.5/10”

Massimo Moratti has expressed his immense delight at what has proved to be one of the most successful years in the history of Inter. The club patron talked about Inter, Mourinho and everything else in a lengthy interview with Sky Italia.
The joy on the oil tycoon’s face was imminent as he discussed a year where his club became the first Italian side to complete a treble and also claimed the Club World Cup to go out with five trophies in 2010.
“It is simply stunning to see that we have won five titles in a year. The trophies look stunning when put together. It is truly exceptional. I will give Inter a 9.5 on 10, it would have been perfect had we won in Monaco.”
The Nerazzurri won the the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia and most importantly the Champions League under the guidance of Jose Mourinho who subsequently left for Real Madrid. But Moratti admits that he foresaw the Portuguese’s departure.
“It seemed entirely natural to me; I’d anticipated it; it was obvious. Perhaps he never told me directly because it was difficult for him and he was sorry about it, but tacitly it was something we both knew.”
Mourinho who took charge of Inter in the summer of 2008, won the league in his first year with the club before the historic achievements of the past season and Moratti says that the pair have no differences.
“It seemed quite a normal end to two amazing years that had whizzed by, and that it was ok for it to end like that. There was no falling-out; it was about his ambition to prove he could be successful elsewhere.
“The way he left was proof of how attached to Inter he was: the fact that he exited via the window, ran off the pitch, shows just how sorry he was.”

Mou has now become a part of Inter folklore and his contributions to the club were acknowledged by Leonardo who took charge of the Nerazzurri last week. And Moratti has confidence in the Brazilian to succeed.
“The appointment of Leonardo was in no way to spite anyone or appease Inter’s fans. It was a choice borne out of the professionalism and intelligence of the individual. I am expecting him to be lively and he brings with a him a lot of joy to the pitch.
“2011 will be a very important year for him. I am hoping to see all the players return to their best. We have a had a period where we have seemed to miss some of our qualities, perhaps because of all what we won. But I am sure, he will be able to start afresh with this team.”

Leonardo replaced Rafa Benitez who spent only six months at Inter and despite guiding Inter to two trophies, Moratti felt that the Spaniard’s outburst after the Club World Cup was a mistake.
“I was surprised at it cause those were the qualities I respected in him – his calmness. To air his opinions on the market in the public is something that we should have discussed privately. I was sorry for our players that his dismissal as such soured what was a joyous occasion for us.”
Inter will take to the pitch under Leonardo for the first time against Napoli at the San Siro on January 6. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
