Moratti responds to Benitez criticism

Inter President Massimo Moratti has hit back at former coach Rafael Benitez after the Spaniard claimed the club’s medical staff was a large factor behind the failure during his stewardship.
Earlier this week Benitez said that there was no liaison with medics during his tenure, meaning he had little or no idea as to when players would be returning to action from injury.
However, Moratti feels that Benitez is simply bitter having witnessed Brazilian coach Leonardo turn around the Nerazzurri’s fortunes as they set about attempting to wrestle top spot from city rivals AC Milan.
“Let’s just say that, given Inter’s recent results, we could have imagined a reaction like that from Benitez. I can understand him on a human level,” Moratti told journalists yesterday.
“I haven’t spoken to our doctor about this, but I think that he is a little hurt by these comments. But Dr Combi is one of several strong points at the club, so if Benitez means to say that he (Combi) is to blame for the injuries, it’s not the case.”
The former Liverpool manager also went on to bemoan a lack of spending within the pre-season transfer window as Inter only signed youngsters Philippe Coutinho and Jonathan Biabiany under the Spaniard’s reign.
