Napoli’s Matavz rejected other offers

Groningen striker Tim Matavz’s agent has claimed that he rejected several other offers in order to sign a pre-contract deal to join Napoli in the summer.
The Slovenian international, 22, has scored 15 goals in the Dutch league so far this season, and will continue to play for Groningen until June when he will link up with Napoli. The deal was agreed in the closing hours of the January transfer window.
But he could have ended up elsewhere, as his agent Musret Jashari, quoted in the Gazzetta dello Sport said: “Matavz refused many offers in order to go to Napoli. We received offers from Schalke, Celtic, Wolfsburg and Palermo, as the Azzurri were his preferred destination.
“My client likes the technical football played in Italy, and how [Walter] Mazzarri plays it. He also likes everything the coach is doing with a young side.
“Matavz is a great player. He is a mature person who has done very well so far in Holland. I have been with him since he was 17 years old, and he has been on an extraordinary journey to be where he is. I am very pleased for him, and hope he can do well.
“Tim is a player with great potential, and I hope he can work well with [Edinson] Cavani, helping Napoli do well in the Champions League.”

However, Jashari also confirmed that negotiations were far from straightforward, saying: “On the last day, the agreement with Napoli over the acquisition of my client did not go smoothly over certain reasons, but we have agreed to rectify the situation in July.” Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
