Oscar Del Calcio nominations announced

The Italian Players’ Association (AIC) have revealed the nominations for the upcoming Oscar Del Calcio, which will be decided January 24.
The AIC, the equivalent to England’s Professional Footballers’ Association, will first decide upon the Best Italian Player and the Best Foreign Player, and one of those two winners will be announced as the Player of the Year.
The Best Italian Player will be contested between Udinese’s Antonio Di Natale, who was Serie A’s top scorer last season, Milan’s Andrea Pirlo and the Rossoneri’s new recruit Antonio Cassano.
The Best Foreign Player is between Inter’s trio of Dutch Wesley Sneijder, Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o and Argentine striker Diego Milito, reflecting the Nerazzurri’s Treble-winning campaign last year.
Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli, Palermo’s Javier Pastore and Milan’s Alexandre Pato are the nominees for Best Young Player. Best Goalkeeper is between Inter’s Julio Cesar, Palermo’s Salvatore Sirigu and Napoli’s Morgan De Sanctis.
Milan’s Thiago Silva, Inter’s Walter Samuel and Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini will do battle for Best Defender. Jose Mourinho is the outstanding favourite for Coach of the Year for his success with Inter last term. Massimiliano Allegri of Milan and Luigi Del Neri of Juventus are alongside him as nominees.
Emidio Morganti, Nicola Rizzoli and Paolo Tagliavento have been nominated as for Best Referee. There will also be awards for 2010’s best goal, best team, top goalscorer and for fair play.
Serie A players all cast their votes during the summer for the various categories, and the results have just been collated and revealed.
