Pirlo: ‘Conte reminds me of Lippi’

Juventus summer signing Andrea Pirlo has equated new Coach Antonio Conte to former World Cup winning Italian Coach Marcello Lippi, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
In an interview at Juve’s preseason training grounds at Bardonecchia, a province of Turin, the talented central midfielder stated Conte’s attitude reminds him of “Marcello Lippi’s enthusiasm and desire to win.”
Pirlo also praised Conte’s ambition to involve more experienced players into the team’s tactics: “It’s nice to know that the coach is counting on you. But we must all be responsible. We are working to build something important.”
Conte, who was hired earlier this summer after the sacking of Gigi Del Neri, is said to have large-scale tactical plans for the Bianconeri, experimenting with a 4-2-4 formation. A key man in the Coach’s plan will be Pirlo, who says the squad is testing the formation and will be ready at the start of the season.
Pirlo also commented on the prospect of the Old Lady acquiring Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal with reports that negotiations are well underway: “He is a great player. If he comes we will welcome him with open arms.”
Finally, the World Cup winner stated the team’s mentality to win: “Juve has lost esteem in recent years because only winning helps you to win. We must recreate this confidence. Juve deserves to win for the story it has.”
