Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has claimed that he never actually invited Francesco Totti to end his international retirement and play in a friendly match.
Recent reports suggested that Prandelli wanted Totti to be the main attraction in a showpiece friendly dedicated to the Roma captain, but the ex-Fiorentina Coach claims this is not true.
He said: “On Totti, my statement was taken out of context, blown out of proportion. Now I have a new project, and I’m going forward with it.”
Totti retired from international football after winning the 2006 World Cup.
