Ranieri believes Roma can still contest for Scudetto

This weekend, Roma beat Cagliari 3-0 and propelled themselves into third place in the table. Coach Claudio Ranieri is now adamant that his side are serious title contenders.
Francesco Totti opened the scoring with a penalty in the first half before Simone Perrotta taped in the second on 70 minutes, the game was sealed when Jeremy Menez rounded Cagliari keeper Agazzi with only a minute to go.
Roma are now only two points off second placed Napoli and six points off league leaders Milan. Claudio Ranieri spoke to Sky Sports after the game and stated that he felt his team could still challenge for the league,
“We are competing for the scudetto, I am fortunate to have a number of choices at my disposal. I opted to start with Totti and Borriello but both Vucinic and Menez also had an impact on the game.”
The Roma coach was keen to play down recent rumours of rift and turmoil in the Giallorossi dressing room and promoted a more harmonious situation in his camp.
“The balance in the locker room is always very important. We must try and focus on doing our job on the pitch and ignore everything else going on around us. If we can continue to grow as we did last season, there is no reason why we can’t sell out the Olimpico once again and give the fans something to shout about.”
Roma remain undefeated in the Stadio Olimpico but will need to improve their away form after losing five on the road so far this term. They sit in third place, six points behind leaders Milan.
