Ranieri says Totti is not hard to manage

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has insisted that club talisman Francesco Totti is easy to manage despite the captain cutting a frustrated figure on the substitute’s bench at the weekend.
Not for the first time this season, Ranieri opted not to select Roma’s number 10 with Totti himself revealing he was not told until the last minute that he was not going be involved in the victory at the San Siro.
But Ranieri has hit back at this morning’s suggestions that Totti is too high maintenance. “It’s not difficult to manage the captain”, said the former Chelsea and Juventus chief.
“Francesco is an intelligent lad. Then again we certainly can’t pretend that he is happy when he doesn’t play, actually the opposite would be strange. He wants to play, but this is normal. But our project is ambitious and I hope to carry it even further forward.”
“We have always said that our objective is the Scudetto. But we need an in-depth squad to compete on three fronts. It’s the first time that there is a project of this nature [at the club] and it’s clear that it’s not easy.
“But all the players must live with this situation together. Rotation must be an extra weapon rather than a hindrance,”
Ranieri added. Roma’s victory over Milan once again put the Giallorossi in contention as they are now only seven points behind the table topping Rossoneri.
