Ranieri: “Totti is Roma”

Roma Coach Claudio Ranieri has once again denied suggestions that club captain Francesco Totti feels marginalised this season after the talisman failed to find the back of the net once more against Catania.
There had been reports that Totti was unhappy at being left on the bench for a few key games as well as being subbed consistently, but Ranieri stated that for him Totti epitomized the Giallorossi.
“Totti feeling lonely? You should ask him, it seems to me that he still has many years of his contract, he is a leader for the future, he is Roma. I do not see a future of Roma without Totti, in my project, he is at the center.”
Ranieri then spoke about Mirko Vucinic whose two second half goals helped Roma to a 4-2 victory against Catania on Thursday. The Lupi tactician believes the Montenegrin is getting back to his best.
“I expect from him what he did Thursday, goals. Vucinic scored, but Totti didn’t. However, it was an incredible bit of generosity, as he could have gone for goal himself at the end but he passed.
“This speaks volumes about his attachment to the mesh. Totti has had a single injury this season, he has always trained hard. I feel Mirko is a mature player for 27 years, last year had started badly then had a wonderful league, he knows that I believe in him.”

Ranieri’s contract with the Lupi expires at the end of the current season and with the Roman club still trying to secure new owners for itself, there have been reports that Ranieri may lose out if he doesn’t deliver silverware.
“The contracts now count for little, I will carry out my project with Roma and it will not change anything. I’m giving 100 percent and more to ensure that this team can go all the way and maybe win the championship.”
Roma will take on Sampdoria on Sunday at the Marassi. The Giallorossi are currently 7 points behind leaders Milan in the standings.
