Ranieri: “We aim to improve further”

Claudio Ranieri has revealed in an interview with Mediaset Premium that his main objective with Roma is to continue improving day by day and that he hopes to continue building on last season’s successes.
“My Roma has to do everything better than it did it in 2010, despite enjoying a fantastic year. We always aim to improve, thus this term we will aim to collect more than the 80 points we collected last season.”
The Giallorossi endured a disastrous start to their campaign as they had only two points from their first four games. Many questions were asked about their abilities but Ranieiri managed to turn things around with a victory against Inter.
“We made a false start to the season. I think there were mistakes from everyone. It was in Bresica, despite the defeat that we returned, staying in the game till the very last minute.
“And then the win against Inter in the next game, though we were never really in a crisis, helped us regain our self-belief. From there, with the exception of a few games, Roma has done what we can and must do.”

After recovering from their blip at the beginning, the Giallorossi did well to recover and have qualified for the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League too.
“The real breakthrough came in three games, all victories: in Basel, the derby and the great comeback that we managed against Bayern Munich at the Olimpico. Our market has been very good. The club has provided me a rose even better than the previous one.”
Ranieri was inevitably asked about the team’s achievements last season that saw them push Inter all the way in the title race despite being 12 points behind at one stage and the Tinkerman praised his team for their performances.
“In the past season we did something very important. We played game after game, but the victory of Juventus in Turin on the ground was the one that gave us the feeling of being a great team.
“In any case for me to beat Juventus was not a personal revenge. The Inter comeback was fantastic. Then there was also a great victory in the derby. But we didn’t lose the Scudetto against Sampdoria, but especially in Naples and Livorno, against the Tuscans who got relegated we lost five points.”

Roma return to action in the New Year when they welcome Catania at the Olimpico.
