Reja: “We will always fight for first position”

After seeing his side return to top spot in the Serie A standings, Lazio coach Edy Reja fired a warning shot to the rest of the title contenders. Speaking to the Corriere dello Sport after his sides 2-0 win over Napoli, the former Vesuviani coach stated that: “I have a squad that is very competitive. Can we stay at the top? We will see, but we will fight all the way to finish in first position”.
After two successive defeats, the pressure was building on the 65-year-old tactician and he was criticised for making wholesale changes in the midweek defeat to Cesena. Reja explained that: “it is always possible to lose a few games, the criticism after the Cesena game was not merited. I will choose what I feel is the best team to win the match and on this occasion, I failed. The players I rested for that match returned stronger today and we won this very important game against Napoli”.
