Reports: Benitez sacked by Inter

Inter president Massimo Moratti has officially sacked Rafa Benitez as coach after their poor start to the season, according to Sky Sports.
Benitez’s future has been in the balance for a while now, but it finally seems that Moratti’s patience has run out. The Spanish tactician was tasked with winning the World Club Cup to save his job, which he did, but it seems that still wasn’t enough to prevent Moratti pulling the trigger.
After winning the tournament in Abu Dhabi, Benitez stated that Inter had to back him by buying new players in January, or sack him. It seems that ultimatum has backfired as Moratti, who refused to sign any of Benitez’s requested players last summer, has opted for a change in management.
Inter have struggled to defend any of the titles that they won last season under Jose Mourinho. Their league struggles have been matched in the Champions League, where they finished a disappointing second to Tottenham Hotspur in their group.
The Spanish media have already claimed that Benitez, 50, knew he was on borrowed time and has been holding out for the sack to make sure he receives compensation. The former Liverpool coach is currently at his home in England, as he was allegedly granted a short break by Moratti. It now seems that Benitez won’t be required to return to Italy.
Inter are expected to confirm the termination of his contract, which will cost them a reported €8 million, in the morning. Former Milan coach Leonardo is the current favourite to take over the job, with the likes of Luciano Spalletti and Fabio Capello outsiders.
The Nerazzurri are currently seventh in Serie A, and are 13 points behind their city rivals Milan who top the table. Welcome Bonus Offer Betway
