Riise signs for Fulham

Roma left-back John Arne Riise has signed a three-year contract with English side Fulham. The Norwegian spent three successful years at the Giallorossi after joining in 2008.
Riise was widely expected to leave the Romans after contract negotiations about his renewal had been unsuccessful and it was due to expire next year. The transfer fee has not been disclosed but is believed to be in the region of €3 million.
Riise’s move to Fulham will see him return to the English Premier League where he played for Liverpool for seven years prior to his move to Italy. He will reunite with his brother Bjorn Helge Riise who plays for the Londoners.
The 30-year old was presented on the club’s official website today and he spoke of his delight in signing with the Cottagers: “I’m delighted to have completed my transfer to Fulham this morning and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League once again.
“Fulham is a Club that I have been following as my brother, Bjorn plays here and he speaks very highly of the Club and the staff. I am looking forward to working with Martin Jol and the rest of the squad when I report to training next week.”

Martin Jol, who took over as Fulham manager earlier in the summer following the resignation of Mark Hughes also commended Riise and said he would give him extra options to explore.
“John Arne Riise is an experienced international left-back who will bring a number of qualities to our squad and provide more options for me. He is used to performing at the very highest level for both club and country, and is an accomplished player defensively, who can also contribute to our attacking play.”
Incidentally, Roma are believed to be following another Red in the form of Argentinean full-back Emiliano Insua who spent last season on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray as a replacement for the departing Riise.
